About Us
“We all know the Sirens used to be a bunch of divas with huge attitudes, luring men towards their island with their ethereal voices and devilish ways…some of that has changed and some of it hasn’t. Of course now we’re a fabulous, classy a cappella group and have a bit more to do with our day than tricking dudes and killing them…we’re not that mean nor do we have the time”
But in all seriousness…
The Sirens are a premier a cappella group from the University of Richmond. Founded in the spring of 1994, the Sirens is the only all-female a cappella group on campus. This group was started to provide UR women with the opportunity to explore their desire for vocal musical expression and improve their performance skills. The group provides a new dimension in artistic presentation and appreciation for the UR Community. We are self-run and we perform many different genres, from a cappella classics to pop culture hits, at various functions on campus and in the community.
Mission Statement
The Sirens is an a cappella group that seeks to enrich the University of Richmond by brining enjoyable and accessible music to the student body. We practice together for six hours a week and each consistently commit time out of rehearsal to musical improvement and group development. We participate in a wide variety of charitable events and support many other University sponsored organizations through our performances. We also strive to represent the University of Richmond in a positive manner by performing at other universities and being chosen for nation-wide compilation CDs as a result of our hard work and continued quest for excellence. |
